Early Childhood Educator Training at The Academy

The Academy is an educator training center located within Chemeketa Community College providing non-credit training for early, mid, and advanced career educators. We provide early childhood educators high-quality training opportunities aligned with licensure requirements that enhance their ability to meet the needs of children and families. We also offer consulting and customized training specifically designed for groups ranging from individual providers to large organizations.

    Learning with Loose Parts, Set Two (LEC)
    What are loose parts, exactly? Join us to explore how adding open-ended materials to your classroom curriculum can expand children's play and support learning. Together we will examine how loose parts can be used in your everyday planning. 

    Reframing Guidance: Understanding Challenging Behavior, Set One (UGB)
    Join us to identify behaviors that challenge you and then look at those behaviors through the lens of development in order to better understand the behavior and establish a plan for addressing the behaviors in a developmentally appropriate way. 

    No Bones About It: Fostering Children’s Connection with Nature
    You’ve likely heard that nature is beneficial for children, but have you thought about your own relationship with nature and how it might impact your teaching? During this training we will examine some of the benefits of nature and explore how our own relationship with nature impacts teaching. Does the thought of bones, snakeskins and owl pellets make you squeamish? Pique your curiosity? Learn strategies for incorporating natural items such as these into your curriculum. 

    In the Tradition: Music to Promote Children’s Development, Set One (LEC)
    Join us to discover how to connect with children through real music that comes from the heart, even if you aren’t a singer or musician. These connections foster development across the domains and build a strong sense of community within the classroom.

    Beyond Housekeeping: Scaffolding Mature Dramatic Play, Set Three (LEC)
    Have you wondered how to make your dramatic play area a place of creativity and learning for young children? In this interactive workshop, explore with peers how make-believe play supports children’s growth and development, and how early childhood educators can foster mature play.

    The Academy works with organizations and private child care centers to provide customized training to help meet ongoing training requirements for your staff. We can come to you virtually or in person or provide training at one of our facilities. We will work with you to ensure that you and your staff receive exceptional training that meets your unique needs and interests.
