Academic Standing

Learn more about the college's standards for academic standing.

Chemeketa cares about your academic success!

We want to support you in reaching your academic goals here at Chemeketa, so each term we review your academic progress to make sure you're staying in Good Academic Standing.

The college requires credit-seeking students to maintain satisfactory academic progress. Students who are not meeting academic standards may not be eligible for continued enrollment, per Procedure 5030.

Academic Standing is different from the Satisfactory Academic Progress required by Financial Aid.

Academic Standing Types

  • Academic Good Standing

You are in good standing by having a cumulative GPA of 2.00 and completing each term with a 2.00 GPA.

  • Academic Warning
Your term GPA is below a 2.00 or you have attempted 36 credits or less and have a cumulative GPA below a 2.00.

You will receive an email notifying you of your standing and next steps. You may need to meet with your assigned advisor or counselor to discuss success strategies and helpful resources.

To schedule an appointment use Navigate. If you do not have an assigned advisor or counselor, click Schedule an Appointment, select a service area (Academic Advising or Counseling Services) and answer questions about your preferred service, date, time, and location.
  • Academic Probation
You had a term below a 2.00 GPA following a term on warning status and have attempted 18 or more credits OR you have attempted 37 or more credits and have a cumulative GPA below a 2.00. You may remain on probation until you attain a 2.00 cumulative GPA as long as you complete each term with a 2.00 GPA.

  • Academic Suspension

You were on probation and have 37 or more attempted credits AND earn a term GPA below 2.00 AND have a cumulative GPA below 2.00.

You will be sent an email notifying you that you will be suspended for one term and your classes will be dropped for the following term, unless you are approved for an Academic Standing Appeal. The deadline for submitting an Appeal will be listed in your notification email. An academic suspension standing will prevent you from registering.

If you have experienced extenuating circumstances that prevented your academic success you can file an Academic Standing Appeal.

In order to be considered to return to Chemeketa you'll need to complete the reinstatement process at least two weeks prior to the start of the term in which you wish to return. Exact deadlines can be found on the Academic Standing Key Dates

The reinstatement process requires you to meet with a Counselor to complete a Success Plan and fill out the Academic Standing Reinstatement Form.

To schedule an appointment through Navigate, select "Counseling Services" as the service area and "Academic Standing - Suspension" as the preferred service.
